Okay, taking a couple of days off was definitely a good idea. And I wish I could carry on this post with some positivity, but there’ve been some developments today. Seriously concerning developments.

First, I need to say sorry if you sent me a supportive message and I haven’t replied. If I’m honest, chatting to you guys has been my favourite part of doing this blog. It almost makes me feel human again, but I just can’t handle some of the abuse coming through right now. There are only so many times you can type Fuck Off without it getting to you. I’m a vampire, guys, but I still have a heart, even if it doesn’t beat or require oxygen. Basically what I’m saying is, even with all my obvious deficiencies, I’m a darn sight nicer than some of you arseholes out there.

While I was changing my settings, I also put mute on all other notifications, so I can’t see any of the sick memes and crap that’s been filling my inbox. So sorry if you sent something that wasn’t sick, but I wiped it all in one go. It was the easiest way.

In the end, this afternoon, I told my dad about what had happened. Not the part about Glen hacking into a police database so that I could view the medical records, but how I stumbled across the news of some deaths that looked remarkably like vampires were involved. Surprisingly, neither Mum nor Dad had picked up on the events despite the fairly heavy media coverage of the murders. Mum’s been lost in her own little world the last couple of days. I guess it’s to be expected, given what she’s been though with Dad and losing her job and everything. Still, it’s odd to hear her heart charged up on excess adrenaline. It’s so unlike her. So I decided to speak to Dad alone. After all, this is basically his profession. I added a few red herrings though when I spoke to him, just to be safe. For starters, I told him that I’d seen an article on the internet and that it had happened over a year ago and in Scotland, too. But I kept the rest the same. Three deaths, each person maimed to a greater or lesser extent.

“It’s highly unlikely,” he said, as I followed him into his study after dinner. “Three people in one night. In the same public location. No. Not a vampire.”

“And it couldn’t be a pack of them?”

He chuckled briefly, like I was a little kid who’d just said something stupid.

“Vampires have survived millennia living in the shadows. Their continued existence has only been viable because people don’t believe they exist. I’ll be honest, even I, as a firm believer in the occult, took a while to come to terms with the fact that you genuinely are, you know … dead. If the truth got out, they would be hunted to extinction. Vampires do not draw attention to themselves.
